Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to be charged at the Sessions Court here tomorrow in connection with an alleged corruption case linked to the seizure of cash and gold bars during a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation.
According to news reports, the former Bera Member of Parliament is scheduled to face charges at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court at 9am.
The charges follow months of investigation by the MACC into alleged irregularities involving the management and expenditure of government funds during Ismail Sabri’s administration between 2021 and 2022.
The case first drew public attention after the anti-graft agency conducted a series of raids and reportedly seized substantial amounts of cash in various currencies as well as gold bars from several locations believed to be linked to the investigation. The recovered assets were estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of ringgit.
MACC investigators had previously questioned Ismail Sabri on multiple occasions as part of the probe. Earlier this year, the commission confirmed that the former prime minister had been named as a suspect in its investigation.
Sabri was the face on television during the Covid-19 pandemic, providing Malaysians daily update briefing. His son in law, Jovan Mandagie at that tine was riding high supplying face masks under the Jovan brand name, he was declared bankrupt in 2025 over unresolved legal dispute relating unpaid financials.
