‘The Conjuring’ Prequel Finds Its Young Ed And Lorraine Warren

The Warrens are coming back to the big screen, but this time with younger actors in the roles. New Line has cast Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix as young Ed and Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring: First Communion, a prequel set within the horror franchise.

The project has moved into production with Rodrigue Huart attached as director and Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg writing the screenplay. Deadline notes that the film is set to arrive in cinemas on September 10, 2027.

Wareing and Fix will take on the roles previously played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who portrayed the married paranormal investigators throughout the main Conjuring films. The prequel will explore an earlier period in the couple’s story, though specific plot details have not been revealed.

Huart joined the project after New Line selected him based on his short film work. Peter Safran will produce through The Safran Company, with John Rickard and Natalia Safran serving as executive producers. Romel Adam is also attached as an executive producer.

Wareing’s credits include Netflix’s Ransom Canyon, Manifest and Independence Day: Resurgence. Fix has appeared in projects including Daisy Jones & the Six, Orphan Black: Echoes and North of Normal.

The film adds another chapter to The Conjuring Universe, which began with James Wan’s 2013 film. The franchise has since expanded with sequels and spin-offs featuring characters including Annabelle and The Nun.

The series has generated more than US$2.7 billion worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing horror franchises to date. With The Conjuring: First Communion, New Line continues to expand the franchise with a story set before the events of the existing films.
