Parliament Launches Nationwide Fitness Drive After 600 Join Inaugural Cergas Run

Parliament Malaysia has launched a nationwide fitness initiative after more than 600 participants joined the inaugural Larian Cergas Parlimen 2026, marking a new chapter in its efforts to promote healthy living while bringing the legislative institution closer to the people.

The event was officiated by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul alongside Dewan Negara President Senator Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, who flagged off the 5km run from the main entrance of Parliament.

Members of Parliament ran alongside members of the public, with the event serving as a platform to strengthen engagement between lawmakers and communities while advancing Parliament’s Merakyatkan Parlimen” agenda.

Building on the programme’s success, Parliament also announced plans to roll out the “222 MY Cergas Parlimen Hybrid Run” in phases across all 222 parliamentary constituencies nationwide.

The initiative aims to cultivate a healthier lifestyle at the grassroots level while encouraging MPs to champion community well-being in their respective constituencies.

Parliament said the nationwide campaign is expected to support its bid for recognition in the Malaysia Book of Records for a national fitness initiative involving all Members of Parliament.

The institution also expressed appreciation to My Creative Moments, the co-organiser, and all partners involved in making the event a success.

The initiative underscores Parliament’s broader role beyond lawmaking, positioning it as a platform to promote healthier lifestyles and stronger community engagement across Malaysia.
