UEM Edgenta Bhd is strengthening its role in Sarawak’s infrastructure development through the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge, which forms part of the RM11 billion Sarawak Coastal Road and Second Trunk Road (CSTR) projects.
The company, appointed as the Project Management Consultant (PMC), provided project management and technical oversight alongside Jabatan Kerja Raya Sarawak (JKR Sarawak) for the country’s longest river-crossing bridge.
Spanning 4.844 kilometres across the Batang Lupar estuary, the cable-stayed bridge connects Sebuyau and Triso, addressing a long-standing transport barrier that previously required communities to depend on ferry services. The bridge is expected to improve travel efficiency, support economic activities along Sarawak’s coastal belt and provide better access to healthcare and education facilities.
UEM Edgenta said the project required advanced engineering coordination due to the river’s challenging conditions, including strong tidal currents and the presence of estuarine crocodile populations. The company used digital solutions including real-time construction analytics, drone-assisted site reporting and Building Information Modelling (BIM) methods to support quality control and project monitoring.

The project also focused on knowledge transfer by involving local Sarawakian engineers and contractors in advanced construction technologies. UEM Edgenta’s contribution to the bridge project was recently recognised with the IEM Pinnacle Award 2026 in the Engineering & Construction category by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia.
