Malaysia must move beyond a government-led approach and mobilise industry, academia and the public to achieve its ambition of becoming an AI Nation by 2030, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said.
He said the whole-of-nation approach would be driven through AI Malaysia Bhd, a new national entity under the Digital Ministry that brings together the expertise, resources and stakeholders needed to build the country’s artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem.
“We need to have a common space where all relevant sectors can come together and discuss the actual challenges faced by every sector,” Gobind said after the launch of AI Malaysia.
Gobind said the entity would help determine Malaysia’s AI direction, formulate policies and ensure national strategies are implemented effectively.
AI Malaysia will support the Malaysia Digital Economy Master Plan 2030 and the Malaysia AI Plan 2026-2030, which focuses on AI development across government, society and the economy.
The government is also targeting the digital economy to contribute at least 30% of Malaysia’s GDP by 2030.
