Sepang International Circuit (SIC) estimates around RM40 million will be required to host the Formula One (F1) Bahrain Grand Prix, scheduled to take place from October 2 to 4.
SIC Chief Executive Officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif said the cost would be shared with the Bahrain government, which had previously fully covered the race hosting rights fee estimated between US$70 million (RM286 million) and US$80 million (RM327 million).
He said discussions with Bahrain International Circuit are ongoing to determine the cost-sharing arrangements, including preparations, circuit requirements and event operations.
The estimated RM40 million cost covers facility upgrades, venue preparations and compliance with specifications set by Formula One Management (FOM) to ensure the race meets international standards.
Azhan added that an initial inspection by F1 representatives showed Sepang International Circuit remains in excellent condition and does not require resurfacing work.
Only minor improvements are needed, including upgrades to run-off areas, LED panel installations and several technical enhancements to meet F1 requirements.
Malaysia previously hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang from 1999 to 2017 before the race was removed from the F1 calendar.
