MBSB Bank Berhad has launched its Visa Debit Card-i on Samsung Wallet and Google Pay, allowing customers to make contactless payments using eligible Android devices.
The service enables MBSB Bank Visa Debit Card-i holders to pay at participating Visa merchants locally and overseas without carrying a physical card. Transactions are authenticated through security features on the customer’s device, while tokenisation replaces actual card details with a unique digital identifier.
The launch comes as cashless payments continue to grow in Malaysia. Electronic payment transactions reached 18.4 billion in 2025, up 25% from the previous year, with an average of 538 cashless payments per person.
Usman Ghouse, Group Chief Consumer Banking Officer of MBSB Bank, said the launch responds to rapidly changing retail payment habits, with customers increasingly seeking payment methods that are simple, secure and integrated into devices they use daily.
The bank said the move forms part of its wider expansion of digital consumer banking services, which includes GET – Global Easy Transfer, powered by Wise, for international money transfers, as well as PrimeGold-i, a digital gold investment solution backed by physical gold with investments starting from RM10.
Both services are available through M Journey, MBSB Bank’s digital platform. The bank also plans to introduce Apple Pay in the coming months, further expanding its contactless payment options.
Matthew Ng, Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Malaysia Electronics, said Samsung Wallet is designed to make everyday transactions simpler and more convenient while providing fast and secure payments through Galaxy devices.
To encourage customers to use Samsung Wallet, MBSB Bank is running its “Tap Smart. Win Big.” campaign from June 18 to Aug 31, 2026.
Customers who add their MBSB Bank Visa Debit Card-i to Samsung Wallet and complete their first eligible tap will receive an RM5 ZUS Coffee voucher. Those who spend at least RM30 in a single eligible transaction will also stand a chance to win a Samsung Galaxy Tab, subject to the campaign’s terms and conditions.
The launch was held alongside the prize-giving ceremony for MBSB Bank’s Simpan Berganda Menang Bergaya 5.0 campaign, where winners received Swiss-made luxury watches under the Early Bird category and a Jetour T2 as the National Prize winner for the second-quarter qualifying period.
The SBMB 5.0 campaign remains open until Dec 31, 2026, with prizes including a GWM Tank 300, GWM Tank 500, Suzuki Jimny five-door, Maldives travel packages for two and monthly cash rewards.
