BMW Malaysia has introduced the new BMW iX3 50 xDrive M Sport Pro, marking the arrival of the German marque’s Neue Klasse generation with a sweeping technological overhaul, up to 805km of range and a radically redesigned digital cockpit.
Described as BMW’s most significant new model in a generation, the fully electric Sports Activity Vehicle is the first Neue Klasse model to reach Malaysia and it comes with major recognition already secured, having been named both the 2026 World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle of the Year.
BMW Group Malaysia Managing Director Benjamin Nagel said the new iX3 represents a turning point for the premium carmaker, drawing parallels with the original Neue Klasse models that reshaped BMW during the 1960s.
“The iX3 is redefining the experience of every BMW and the premium segment itself moving forward as the vehicle brings together responsive driving dynamics, artificial intelligence, circularity and modern production methods,” he shared, while adding that its significance extends beyond the launch of a single model.
“What makes this moment significant for Malaysia is not simply that this vehicle is here but the future of the BMW brand that arrives with the introduction of the first new vehicle from the portfolio of Neue Klasse,” he said.
A New Generation Of Electric Performance
Nagel said the iX3 is the first production model to feature BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, developed around an 800-volt electrical architecture.
“Its 108.7kWh usable high-voltage battery adopts a cell-to-pack configuration, allowing the cells to be integrated more efficiently within the vehicle. The battery housing also forms part of the underbody structure, contributing to a lower centre of gravity and improved driving dynamics,” he added.
Two electric motors, one on each axle, produce a combined output of 345kW, equivalent to 469hp, and 645Nm of torque. Power is delivered through BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which retains a rear-wheel bias in keeping with the brand’s driving character.
At the centre of the new platform is the “Heart of Joy”, a high-performance control unit governing the powertrain, braking and driving dynamics.
Nagel said the system responds about 10 times faster than conventional control systems, narrowing the delay between driver input and vehicle response. The result is intended to deliver more precise handling, greater directional stability and smoother transitions between accelerating, coasting and braking.
Energy recuperation is also central to the driving experience, accounting for around 98% of braking manoeuvres on average. The system can bring the vehicle to a complete stop, reducing reliance on the conventional brakes and improving smoothness in stop-start traffic.
Up To 805km Range On A Full Charge
The iX3 offers a WLTP driving range of up to 805km, positioning it as one of BMW’s most capable long-distance electric vehicles.
Its 800-volt platform supports DC charging at up to 400kW, allowing energy for as much as 372km of driving range to be added in 10 minutes under suitable charging conditions. The vehicle remains compatible with 400-volt charging infrastructure.
The navigation system can prepare the battery before reaching a charging station, enabling it to accept energy at the highest available rate upon arrival.
An intelligent charging flap opens automatically at charging locations selected through the BMW navigation system. Artificial intelligence can also recognise previously visited charging points based on the vehicle’s direction of approach, provided a BMW Digital Key Plus is set up and carried inside the vehicle.
With energy consumption rated at between 15.1kWh and 17.9kWh per 100km and a drag coefficient of 0.24, BMW describes the model as its most efficient battery-electric SAV to date.
A Cockpit Spanning The Windscreen
The iX3 introduces BMW Panoramic iDrive, a completely new interface designed to place essential information within the driver’s natural field of vision.
Its centrepiece is the 43.3-inch BMW Panoramic Vision, which projects information across the full width of the lower windscreen from A-pillar to A-pillar.
Driving data is placed directly ahead of the driver, while up to six customisable widgets can display navigation, media, weather and other information across the remaining area. Nagel said the projection remains readable even when occupants are wearing polarised glasses.
A new BMW 3D Head-Up Display complements the panoramic system by projecting navigation and driver-assistance information with added depth and perspective.
The cockpit is anchored by a 17.9-inch central touchscreen running BMW Operating System X. An upgraded BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant supports natural-language commands, learns routines and can suggest vehicle functions that the driver has yet to explore.
Bold Design, Premium Cabin
The exterior introduces a cleaner design language that is expected to influence future BMW models.
A vertically arranged kidney grille with BMW Iconic Glow gives the front end a distinctive night-time signature, while smooth surfaces, restrained lines and flush-mounted door handles create a more streamlined appearance.
The M Sport Pro model rides on staggered 22-inch Y-Spoke light-alloy wheels and is equipped with M Sport brakes finished in red high-gloss.
Inside, the iX3 features M Sport seats with pronounced shoulder support, seven massage programmes, electric adjustment, heating and memory functions.
Other standard equipment includes a heated steering wheel, wireless charging tray, three-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof with UV-protective glazing and a 430-watt, 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
Boot capacity stands at 520 litres and expands to 1,750 litres with the rear seats folded. A further 58 litres of storage is provided beneath the bonnet, a first for BMW, with the compartment constructed partly from recycled maritime material.
Smarter Driving And Remote Parking
Driving Assistant Plus provides steering and braking support, maintains speed and distance from the vehicle ahead and helps keep the iX3 within its lane. It can also adjust to detected speed limits and slow the vehicle when approaching bends, roundabouts and junctions.
Parking Assistant Professional provides a 360-degree view of the surroundings and allows selected parking manoeuvres to be performed remotely through a compatible smartphone, with the driver standing up to six metres away.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are integrated, while BMW Digital Key Plus enables the driver’s smartphone to serve as the primary vehicle key. The system can recognise an approaching driver, activate welcome lighting, extend the door handles and prepare personalised cabin settings.
The new iX3, with a recommended retail price of RM378,800, is offered in six exterior colours, including the newly introduced Ocean Wave Blue and Polarised Grey.
