Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) has secured a RM3.028 billion contract for the railway systems package of the Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT) Mutiara Line.
The group said the award was secured through MRCB-Theta Edge JV, an unincorporated joint venture comprising MRCB with a 90% stake and Theta Edge Berhad holding the remaining 10%.
The joint venture has been appointed as the turnkey contractor for the engineering, procurement, design, construction, testing, commissioning and maintenance of the railway systems under Package STC of the Penang LRT Mutiara Line project.
The contract carries a total value of RM3.028 billion and is scheduled for completion within 68.8 months from the commencement date.
The scope of works covers the complete railway systems infrastructure required for the operation of the Penang LRT line.
These include the supply and installation of electric trains, depot equipment, signalling and train control systems, automatic platform gates, trackwork and maintenance vehicles.
The contract also encompasses power supply and distribution systems, railway supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, computerised maintenance management systems, telecommunications and information technology systems, as well as the ticketing system.
The integrated package is expected to deliver the core operational systems required to support the Mutiara Line once civil construction is completed.
MRCB said the project is expected to contribute positively to the group’s future earnings over the duration of the contract.
