Hijabs are getting a new place in UNIQLO’s LifeWear lineup. The Japanese retailer is launching its first standalone hijab collection on August 17, with three styles aimed at different everyday needs.
As reported by Hypebae, the collection consists of the AIRism UV Protection Hijab, Georgette Hijab and Satin Hijab. Each takes a different approach to fabric, finish and wear.
The AIRism UV Protection Hijab is the most functional of the three. It uses UNIQLO’s AIRism fabric, known for its moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties. The design is suited to hot and humid weather, making it the most straightforward option for everyday use in Southeast Asia.
The Georgette Hijab has a lighter, softer feel and a fluid drape. It comes in a triangular, one-size design and is available in 12 colours. The palette includes olive, navy, pale blue and deep wine, giving the style a wider range of options for casual and dressed-up outfits.
Then there is the Satin Hijab, which has a smoother finish and a more formal look. It comes in six colours, including rust, red and black. It is the collection’s dressier option for occasions that call for a sharper finish.
Together, the three styles cover distinct wardrobe needs without straying far from UNIQLO’s focus on practical everyday clothing. The differences are largely in the fabric and finish, giving shoppers a choice based on weather, occasion and personal style.
The collection also follows UNIQLO’s earlier work in modest fashion, including its LifeWear collaborations with Muslim British-Japanese designer Hana Tajima. This latest release puts hijabs directly into the brand’s wider accessories and clothing offering.
The three hijabs will be available through UNIQLO’s website in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines upon their launch.
