HMI Medical Invests Over RM400 Million In New Kuching Specialist Hospital

HMI Medical is investing more than RM400 million in the first phase of Regency Specialist Hospital Kuching, a 300-bed SMART tertiary hospital that is set to open in 2029 and strengthen Sarawak’s specialist healthcare and medical tourism capacity.

The hospital will be developed in two phases, with its first phase accounting for the more than RM400 million investment. A subsequent phase will add further capacity and selected centres of excellence.

Designed as a next-generation SMART hospital, the facility will incorporate advanced medical technologies, connected digital systems and intelligent clinical workflows. It will house a comprehensive cancer centre, smart wards, advanced operating theatres as well as intensive care, diagnostic and treatment facilities.

HMI Medical Group Chief Executive Officer Chin Wei Jia said Sarawak’s economic and population growth, improved connectivity and rising investment were driving stronger demand for high-quality healthcare and specialist services.

The project is also expected to create more than 1,000 jobs spanning medical, nursing, allied health, management, technical and support roles.

Separately, Chin said HMI Medical is committing RM50 million over five years through its HMI Malaysia Healthcare Workforce 2030 Fund to support scholarships, professional development and healthcare talent development.

Regency Specialist Hospital Kuching will be HMI Medical’s third hospital in Malaysia, expanding the group’s existing footprint alongside Mahkota Medical Centre in Melaka and Regency Specialist Hospital in Johor.
