United Plantations Leads Winners, MPI Takes Biggest Hit

United Plantations Bhd emerged as Bursa Malaysia’s top gainer for the trading session on Aug 12, while Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI) suffered the steepest decline as winners outnumbered losers across the broader market.

At the closing bell, the overall market breadth remained positive, with 661 gainers versus 512 losers. Another 600 counters were unchanged, 1,014 were untraded and 13 suspended.

The rally was led by United Plantations, which climbed 40 sen to RM33.60 on 4,127 lots, followed by Nestlé (M) Bhd with a 30 sen rise to RM102.90 on 2,889 lots.

UMS Integration Ltd advanced 28 sen to RM8.15, while Hengyuan Refining Co Bhd gained 25 sen to RM1.95 on 114,947 lots. Tenaga Nasional Bhd was also among the top performers, adding 24 sen to RM14.58 on 66,760 lots.

On the other end of the market, MPI took the biggest hit, falling 60 sen to RM47.50 on 2,749 lots. Hong Leong Industries Bhd shed 34 sen to RM17.64, while Ideal Capital Bhd declined 17 sen to RM3.50. THMY Holdings Bhd slipped 15 sen to RM1.86 on 54,108 lots and Batu Kawan Bhd lost 14 sen to RM20.74.

Trading activity also strengthened, with turnover rising to 3.7 billion units worth RM3.27 billion compared to 3.43 billion units valued at RM2.94 billion on Aug 11.
