Former Subang MP Wong Chen has joined BERSAMA, just days after resigning from his parliamentary seat, marking the latest high-profile move into the party led by former PKR figures.
BERSAMA chairman Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli announced Wong’s entry at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Puchong on Aug 12.
Wong, a three-term MP who had been with PKR for nearly two decades, had previously indicated that he would eventually leave the party after Rafizi and former Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad vacated their parliamentary seats to lead BERSAMA.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) earlier confirmed that no by-election will be held for the Subang parliamentary seat following Wong’s resignation.
EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said the decision was made under Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution after Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul informed the commission that there was no need to fill the vacancy.
The EC received formal notification from Johari in a letter dated Aug 11 after the Subang seat was declared vacant under Article 51 of the Federal Constitution.
