A moderate 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck Mindanao in the Philippines this morning, although there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia).
The earthquake occurred at 9.14 am on Friday at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicentre located at 5.4°N and 125.1°E.
METMalaysia on X said the epicentre was about 132 kilometres south of Koronadal City in the Philippines.
The department confirmed that the earthquake posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia in an update issued at 9.24 am.
The tremor was classified as a moderate earthquake based on its magnitude.
