MK Land Holdings Bhd is reinforcing its support for orangutan conservation through the Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation (BMOUIF), as the foundation joins Marriott Bonvoy in a nationwide campaign to protect endangered orangutans and raise public awareness.
The initiative, “A Story That Matters: Uniting Hospitality and Conservation for a Better Future”, combines conservation, education and hospitality to encourage greater public participation in protecting Malaysia’s orangutans.
The effort builds on the conservation work started under BMOUIF founder the late Tan Sri Dr Mustapha Kamal as the foundation spent more than two decades on orangutan conservation, veterinary research and environmental education.
Carrying the legacy, MK Land Executive Chairman Felina Tan Sri Dr Mustapha Kamal continues to support the foundation and the wider Bukit Merah ecosystem, including BMOUIF’s conservation and education programmes.
The latest campaign centres on Aggy, a young Bornean orangutan that was orphaned shortly after birth and later rehabilitated and reintroduced to Orang Utan Island after months of veterinary care.
As part of the collaboration, Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Malaysia will provide conservation awareness touchpoints, including QR code donation channels and a social media campaign sharing Aggy’s story.
Since 2009, BMOUIF has hosted more than 17,000 students through its education programmes and supported over 430 veterinary medicine and conservation biology interns, alongside its ongoing research and rehabilitation work.
