The Ministry of Finance is on the ground gathering views and proposals from Malaysians, state governments, industry players, the business community and other stakeholders as it steps up preparations for Budget 2027, which is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on Oct 9.
The ministry said the ongoing series of Budget 2027 engagements is intended to ensure that the Government’s spending priorities reflect the actual needs of the people and the economy, while taking into account the development priorities and potential of individual states and regions.
MOF Minister noted that the feedback gathered from the ground will serve as an important input in shaping the final Budget 2027 proposals as the Government moves towards the October tabling.
Among the key issues being raised through the engagement process are the cost of living and people’s wellbeing, education and healthcare, access to financing for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), public safety, inclusion of vulnerable groups and environmental sustainability.
Finance Minister II Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said Budget 2027 would also adopt an Outcome Based Budgeting approach, placing greater emphasis on the results and impact generated by Government expenditure.
“The approach aims to ensure that every ringgit spent can solve people’s problems, create economic opportunities and deliver tangible impact,” he said.
He added that the approach was important to ensure Government allocations were managed efficiently, their performance measured transparently and the intended outcomes delivered to the people.
Last year for Budget 2026 Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tabled one of the highest allocation on record of RM470 billion, this year the amount is expected to exceed as the final budget of his term could be one that generally could benefit the rakyat regardless of race.
