Bursa Malaysia ended its Aug 17 trading session in the red as renewed concerns over geopolitical tensions and the global growth outlook dampened investor sentiment, sending the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) down 1.5 points to 1,725.89.
At the closing bell, the FBM KLCI slipped 0.09% to 1,725.89 from 1,727.39 on Aug 14, after trading between an intraday low of 1,722.16 and high of 1,731.45.
The weakness extended across most key indices. The FBM 70 eased 5.34 points, or 0.03%, to 18,287.85, the F4GBM declined 0.86 point, or 0.08%, to 1,038.50, the FBM Emas fell 6.28 points, or 0.05%, to 12,809.16. Buckling the trend, the FBM Shariah gained 17.27 points, or 0.14%, to 12,646.50.
Meanwhile, Jaks Resources Bhd continues to be the most actively traded stock, with about 167.34 million shares changing hands. The counter surged three sen to 13.5 sen, ending at its intraday high after touching a low of 11 sen.
Zetrix AI Bhd followed with 75.53 million shares traded, closing unchanged at 72 sen after fluctuating between 70.5 sen and 72.5 sen.
HE Group Bhd attracted 35.45 million shares, jumping 13.5 sen to 88 sen. The stock traded in a wide range between 74.5 sen and 92.5 sen during the session.
Key ASIC Bhd was also heavily traded, with 35.26 million shares changing hands. It finished unchanged at 7.5 sen after trading between seven sen and 8.5 sen.
NationGate Holdings Bhd rounded out the five most active counters with 33.42 million shares traded, slipping two sen to RM1.49 after moving between RM1.44 and RM1.51.
Overall trading volume eased to 3.45 billion units from 3.5 billion units on Aug 14, while total market turnover increased to RM2.74 billion from RM2.59 billion.
