Spider-Man: Brand New Day has crossed US$2 billion worldwide, reaching the milestone in 17 days and becoming the second-fastest film to do so.
The Tom Holland-led Marvel film has now grossed US$2.024 billion globally, including US$786.5 million from the US and Canada and US$1.238 billion from international markets.
According to Deadline, the film is now the eighth movie ever to pass US$2 billion worldwide. Only Avengers: Endgame reached the mark faster, doing so in 11 days.
The film added US$189.7 million worldwide during its third weekend. Its domestic haul reached US$71 million, giving it the second-biggest third weekend in US and Canadian box office history. Star Wars: The Force Awakens remains ahead with US$90.2 million.
International markets contributed US$118.7 million during the weekend across 67 markets. China remained the biggest contributor, adding US$10 million and taking its total there to US$210 million.
The UK has generated US$106 million so far, while Mexico has reached US$78 million. Other major markets include Brazil at US$59.5 million, India at US$59.6 million and South Korea at US$53.2 million.
The film has also become Sony Pictures’ highest-grossing release in 36 international markets. Malaysia, India, the Philippines, Spain, Italy and Thailand are among them.
The strong run puts Brand New Day ahead of other major films currently in cinemas. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey took US$123.4 million worldwide in its fifth weekend, bringing its global total to US$1.294 billion.
Meanwhile, The End of Oak Street opened with US$47 million worldwide, while Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie added US$35.75 million for a global total of US$68.75 million.
Toy Story 5 also remains in the global top 10. The Pixar sequel earned another US$9.5 million in its ninth weekend, taking its worldwide total to US$1.11 billion.
For Brand New Day, the next question is how long it can maintain its pace after becoming the second-fastest film to reach the US$2 billion mark.
