A Malaysia Airlines aircraft bound for Kuala Lumpur aborted its takeoff at Narita Airport near Tokyo on Thursday morning after a problem was reported with the aircraft.
Kyodo News, citing Japan’s Transport Ministry, reported that black smoke was seen coming from the plane as it moved towards one of the airport’s runways at about 10.40am local time.
Xinhua, citing Japanese public broadcaster NHK, reported that Narita Airport subsequently closed Runway A for inspection following the incident.
The aircraft was carrying 160 crew members and passengers. No injuries had been reported.
NHK footage showed the aircraft parked on the runway at about 11am, surrounded by several fire engines and ambulances as emergency personnel responded to the incident.
The cause of the aircraft problem was not immediately reported.
