Sunway Healthcare 2Q26 Net Profit Jumps 89% To RM78 Million, Driven By Higher Patient Volume

Sunway Healthcare Holdings reported its second quarter ended June 30, 2026 financial results with quarterly revenue rising 30% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM672.9 million, from RM518.6 million in the corresponding quarter last year.

The growth was driven primarily by stronger patient volumes across the Group’s hospitals, with Sunway Medical Centre Sunway City, Sunway Medical Centre Damansara and Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh making robust contributions.

Sunway Healthcare’s total licensed beds increased 13% y-o-y to 1,855 beds, while total bed capacity stood at 2,072 beds as at June 30, 2026, providing additional capacity for future growth.

Bed occupancy improved to 73%, compared with 67% a year earlier, as inpatient admissions increased 19% y-o-y to 32,599.

Revenue per inpatient admission also rose 8% to RM12,515 from RM11,587 previously.

The stronger patient volumes and utilisation translated into significant earnings growth, with reported earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increasing 43% y-o-y to RM158.8 million, from RM111.2 million.

EBITDA margin consequently expanded to 23.6%, up 2.2 percentage points from 21.4% in 2QFY25.

On a normalised basis, excluding non-recurring costs, EBITDA increased 44% y-o-y to RM161.3 million, while the adjusted EBITDA margin improved to 24.0% from 21.6%.

Profit attributable to owners of the company jumped 89% y-o-y to RM78.2 million, compared with RM41.4 million a year earlier. The improvement came despite higher depreciation expenses arising from the Group’s expanded asset base.

Sunway Healthcare also recorded a substantial improvement in its balance sheet following its initial public offering (IPO), with its net gearing ratio declining to 10% as at June 30, 2026, from 42% at the end of December 2025.

The strong second-quarter performance lifted Sunway Healthcare’s revenue for the six months ended June 30, 2026 by 27% y-o-y to RM1.26 billion.

Reported EBITDA for the first half rose 32% to RM270.8 million, while profit attributable to owners increased 39% to RM111.5 million.

The Group said the first-half performance provides a solid foundation as it enters the second half of the financial year, with progressive capacity activation, rising patient volumes and improving operating leverage supporting its growth trajectory.
