CUCKOO International (MAL) Bhd recorded a marginal 3.7% year-on-year decline in profit after tax (PAT) to RM53.2 million for the six months ended June 30, 2026 (1H26), as softer consumer demand weighed on revenue despite stronger margins and tighter cost controls.
Revenue for 1H26 fell 21.4% to RM473.8 million, reflecting lower units sold. However, gross profit margin improved to 37.3% from 31.7%, supported by lower product costs from a stronger ringgit and reduced customer acquisition costs.
Momentum, however, improved in the second quarter, with PAT up 2.9% to RM28.2 million despite revenue falling 19.8% to RM245.9 million.
The improved quarterly profitability was supported by lower marketing and employee costs, process streamlining and better consumer repayment behaviour, with impairment losses declining both sequentially and year-on-year.
CEO Hoe Kian Choon said the quarterly improvement reflected progress from measures to strengthen the quality and resilience of the business, while the company remains focused on affordability, prudent credit management and operational efficiency.
Hoe shared that the company paid a final dividend of 1.84 sen per share, amounting to about RM26.4 million, in May.
