Selangor May Declare Holiday If It Tops Sukma

The Selangor government may declare an occasional holiday if the state contingent emerges overall champions at the ongoing Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026, said State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi.

He said the proposal would be submitted to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari for consideration after the medal tally is finalised, as Selangor remains well placed to claim the overall title.

“We will propose the holiday to the Menteri Besar for his consideration. If we emerge overall champions, perhaps an incentive could be considered for the people of Selangor,” he told a press conference on the latest developments at SUKMA Selangor 2026 at the Selangor State Sports Council building here today.

Najwan said Selangor had collected 85 gold medals as of 2.50 pm today, with the latest coming from events including the women’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) esports team, women’s individual 3m springboard diving, women’s singles table tennis and men’s singles lawn bowls.

With about a day and a half remaining before the Games conclude, he urged the state’s athletes to remain focused and give their best, while noting that winning and losing are part of competition.

Meanwhile, Najwan said incentives for athletes who perform well would be worked out after SUKMA concludes.
