Wisma Putra has confirmed that no Malaysians have been reported affected following a series of security incidents in Thailand’s southern border provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat on the night of Aug 22.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they are closely monitoring the situation, with local security forces stepping up surveillance and security measures in the affected areas, including the imposition of temporary curfews.
Against this backdrop, the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok and Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla are maintaining close contact with local authorities to monitor developments and safeguard the well-being of Malaysians in the region, the ministry said in a media advisory today.
In view of the heightened security situation, Malaysians residing in, travelling through or planning to travel to the southern border provinces have been advised to exercise greater caution, remain vigilant and comply with all safety advisories, curfews and instructions issued by local authorities.
To ensure timely communication and access to consular assistance, the ministry also urged Malaysians in the affected areas to register and regularly update their contact details through the e-Konsular portal.
For emergencies, Malaysians may contact the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok at +66 2 340 5720 or by email at [email protected].
Wisma Putra said it would continue to monitor the situation closely and issue further updates if necessary.
