The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm, heavy rain and strong winds warning for five states, covering several areas in Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak, until 1pm today.
In a statement, MetMalaysia said the whole of Perlis and Melaka are expected to be affected.
In Kedah, the warning covers Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena and Padang Terap.
For Selangor, the affected areas are Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor and Gombak.
In Sarawak, the warning covers Bintulu as well as Subis, Miri, Beluru and Marudi in the Miri division.
Separately, MetMalaysia issued a Tropical Storm Advisory for Tropical Storm NARRA after the storm was detected in northwestern China today, but stressed that the phenomenon is not expected to have a significant impact on Malaysia.
The tropical storm was located at latitude 19.9° north and longitude 108.0° east, about 114 kilometres northwest of Basuo, China and 1,650 kilometres north of Tumpat, Kelantan, as of 8am.
It recorded maximum wind speeds of 65 kph.
