Bank Islam Appoints Dato Wan Fadzmi As New Chairman

Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad has appointed Dato’ Wan Mohd Fadzmi Che Wan Othman Fadzilah as its new Chairman, effective Aug 27, 2026.

Wan Mohd Fadzmi, 60, will serve as an Independent Non-Executive Chairman, succeeding Tan Sri Dr Ismail Hj Bakar, who retired from the position on Aug 22, 2026.

He brings more than 30 years of domestic and international banking experience, having held various senior leadership positions at Maybank and RHB Bank before serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of Agrobank.

He currently sits on the boards of Zurich Takaful Malaysia Berhad, Zurich General Takaful Malaysia Berhad, Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad and Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad.

His previous directorships include Chairman of the Labuan Financial Services Authority and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Malaysia Berhad, as well as Independent Non-Executive Director of Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad.

Wan Mohd Fadzmi holds a Bachelor of Construction Economics from RMIT University, Melbourne, and has completed the Senior Executive Finance Programme at the University of Oxford and the Advanced Management Programme at Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania.

He is also a Fellow Chartered Banker of the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers and a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia.

Following his appointment, Wan Mohd Fadzmi’s directorships in public companies and listed issuers include Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad and Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad.
