Several major roads around George Town will be closed from Aug 29 to 31 to make way for the National Day parade rehearsal and celebrations at Jalan Padang Kota Lama.
The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) said the road closures will begin at 2am on Aug 29 and remain in place until noon on Aug 31 or until the event concludes.
The closures will affect several roads around the city centre, including the junction of Gat Lebuh Chulia and Pengkalan Weld, part of Gat Lebuh China, Gat Lebuh Gereja and the Lebuh Union-Lebuh Pantai junction.
Part of Lebuh Penang, from Lebuh Light to Lebuh Union, will also be closed, along with part of Lebuh King from Lebuh Bishop to Lebuh Light.
Other affected routes include the Lebuh Light-Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling junction and the Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah-Lebuh Light junction.
MBPP advised motorists to plan their journeys ahead of time, follow instructions from personnel stationed at the affected areas and use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.
The closures are being implemented for the rehearsal and state-level National Day celebrations marking the 69th National Day at Jalan Padang Kota Lama.
