The 59th MATTA Fair is targeting between 150,000 and 180,000 visitors as strong interest in domestic and international travel continues to drive demand.
Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) president Nigel Wong said visitor turnout is expected to remain in line with previous editions, with domestic tourism seeing particularly strong interest this year.
“We are expecting a turnout anywhere between 150,000 and 180,000 visitors,” he said at a press conference here today.
The domestic hall has already been fully booked, with a substantial waiting list, reflecting strong demand for local travel experiences.
The three-day fair will also offer a wider selection of international destinations, including established favourites such as Taiwan, South Korea and Japan, alongside new participants from Central Asia including Uzbekistan and Almaty in Kazakhstan.
“Uzbekistan is very interesting because it’s very rich in Islamic history with well-known monuments and attractions, and it’s much easier to get to Uzbekistan now than it was previously,” Wong said.
China will also have a strong presence through several provinces featured in the China Pavilion. Other participating destinations include Guam, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Tanzania, Tokyo, Turkiye and the Philippines.
The fair will also feature appearances and activities hosted by local radio personalities and celebrities as part of efforts to attract and engage visitors.
MATTA Fair 2026 will take place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from Sept 4 to 6.
The event will span more than 40,820 square metres across 10 exhibition halls, featuring more than 2,026 booths from 285 participating companies.
