The confirmed death toll from devastating flash floods sweeping through central Nepal reached 579, with at least 1,924 people still unaccounted for as of Friday evening, according to the country’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
Search and rescue operations intensified across multiple disaster zones following catastrophic deluges that surged through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems along the Nepal-Tibet border.
The swift currents carried floodwaters and debris across several central districts, sweeping victims downstream over vast distances.
According to NDRRMA records, Chitwan district reported the highest casualty figure with 233 bodies recovered, followed by Nawalparasi East with 154. Additional recoveries were documented across Gorkha (46), Dhading (40), Nuwakot (37), Tanahun (30), Nawalparasi West (27), and Rasuwa (12).
Emergency medical personnel reported that over 1,400 individuals received medical attention or remain hospitalized for severe injuries sustained during the flash floods.
