Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim led Malaysia’s 69th National Day celebrations in Putrajaya today, as more than 80,000 people gathered for the annual parade.
Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah arrived at Dataran Putrajaya at 8am and were received by Anwar and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, along with Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, who chairs the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations committee.
The ceremony began with a nafiri trumpet fanfare, followed by the playing of Negaraku by the Main Guard of Honour band. The royal couple then watched a flypast by five helicopters carrying the Jalur Gemilang and flags representing the Malaysian Armed Forces and its three services.
Sultan Ibrahim subsequently inspected the parade and received the Royal Salute from the Guard of Honour, made up of officers and personnel from the 41st Ceremonial Royal Artillery Battery based at Sungai Buloh Camp.
The celebrations, themed “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”, featured 10,819 participants from 76 contingents and 22 marching bands.
The event marked the third National Day celebration attended by Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith Sofiah since Sultan Ibrahim took the oath of office as Malaysia’s 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 31, 2024, and was installed on July 20 the same year.
