The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) will work with state Islamic religious authorities and relevant agencies to summon a Malaysian who participated in the Miss Equality World 2026 pageant in Thailand.
JAKIM director-general Datuk Sirajuddin Suhaimee said the move would be carried out in accordance with existing laws and regulations following the circulation of the individual’s participation on social media.
“Based on the laws and regulations currently in force, JAKIM will cooperate with state Islamic religious authorities and relevant agencies to summon the individual concerned,” he said.
Sirajuddin said JAKIM viewed the Malaysian’s participation seriously, describing the matter as concerning and saying it had generated public unease.
He added that JAKIM and state Islamic religious authorities would continue to act in accordance with the country’s religious laws and regulations.
