The ringgit opened lower against the US dollar on Sept 1 as elevated US Treasury yields and uncertainty over the Federal Reserve’s interest rate outlook weighed on sentiment.
At 8am, the local currency eased to 4.0300/0350 against the greenback from 4.0230/0270 at the close of Aug 28.
Against major currencies, the ringgit strengthened to 5.4594/4662 against the British pound and 4.6817/6875 against the euro, but weakened against the Japanese yen to 2.5222/5255.
The local note traded mostly softer against regional currencies, slipping to 3.1702/1747 against the Singapore dollar and remaining little changed against the Indonesian rupiah at 227.3/227.8.
It strengthened against the Thai baht to 12.1525/1738 while staying flat against the Philippine peso at 6.46/6.47.
