South Korea Exports Surge 68.7% To US$98.26 Billion In August, Beat Forecasts

South Korea’s exports jumped 68.7% year-on-year to US$98.26 billion in August, extending their growth streak to a 15th consecutive month as strong global technology demand continued to support the economy.

According to Reuters, the increase exceeded the 62.6% growth forecast in a Reuters poll of economists.

On a working-day-adjusted basis, exports rose an even stronger 72.5%, with August recording 22 working days compared with 22.5 days a year earlier.

Imports increased 22.5% from a year ago, leaving Asia’s fourth-largest economy with a preliminary trade surplus of US$34.75 billion for the month.
