Bursa Malaysia opened slightly lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBMKLCI) slipping 0.12 point, or 0.01%, to 1,700.42 as at 9.18 am.
The index opened at 1,700.96 and moved between an early high of 1,702.77 and a low of 1,695.89, as investors took a cautious stance in early trade.
The broader market was mixed, with the FBM Small Cap Index rising 0.20% while the FBM70 fell 0.25% and the FBM ACE declined 0.29%.
Among sectors, the Energy Index stood out, gaining 1.14% to 798.88. The Consumer Products & Services Index also edged up 0.13% to 488.15.
However, the Construction Index fell 0.60% while the FBM Malaysia Mid 70 Index declined 0.25%.
In active trading, Focus Dynamics Group Bhd was the most actively traded counter with 729.08 million shares changing hands, rising 0.005 sen to 0.010 sen.
Ingenieur Gudang Bhd followed, gaining 0.010 sen to 0.045 sen with 364.39 million shares traded, while Velesto Energy Bhd was unchanged at 0.230 sen with 217.88 million shares done.
EForce Holdings Bhd rose 0.025 sen to 0.160 sen on 147.85 million shares, while Niche Integrated Bhd gained 0.005 sen to 0.245 sen with 142.08 million shares traded.
Among the top gainers, Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd rose 70 sen to RM25.98, while Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd added 38 sen to RM2.91.
Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd gained 28 sen to RM4.35, followed by PPB Group Bhd which rose 18 sen to RM9.88 and Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd which added 14 sen to RM7.87.
On the losing side, BLD Plantation Bhd fell 50 sen to RM14.50, while Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd declined 38 sen to RM39.88.
Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd slipped 20 sen to RM21.64, Hong Leong Bank Bhd lost 16 sen to RM23.54 and Kelington Group Bhd fell 11 sen to RM8.73.
