Rapid KL is investigating a suspected cable theft after a grounding cable hanging from the MRT viaduct fell into the road between Sri Raya and Bandar Tun Hussein Onn stations early today, damaging several vehicles and injuring a motorcyclist.
Rapid KL said it received reports that several vehicles suffered damage to their bodywork and windscreens after passing through the affected area.
A motorcyclist was also injured in the incident and was given emergency assistance before being taken by ambulance to Kajang Hospital for further treatment.
Its technical team was immediately deployed to the location after receiving reports of the incident and removed the cable to eliminate the risk to road users.
Initial inspections found that the viaduct structure and systems related to train operations were not affected. MRT Kajang Line services remain safe and are operating as normal.
Rapid KL said it is working closely with the highway operator and relevant authorities to gather further information and conduct a full investigation.
“Initial inspections at the location found that the grounding cable had been cut, raising the possibility that cable theft may have occurred,” it said.
Rapid KL said it takes the incident seriously and will provide full cooperation in the ongoing investigation, adding that the safety of passengers, road users and the public remains its priority.
