A total of 33,716 vehicles were reported stolen in Malaysia between 2024 and July 2026, resulting in estimated losses of RM682.01 million.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar said the figure comprised 14,201 vehicles stolen in 2024, 12,599 in 2025 and 6,916 between January and July this year.
Despite the losses, vehicle theft cases have been on a downward trend, with the number of reported cases falling 11.3% from 14,201 in 2024 to 12,599 last year.
M Kumar said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) had also dismantled 104 vehicle theft syndicates between 2024 and July 2026, resulting in 579 arrests.
“Of that number, 386 individuals were charged in court. This success demonstrates PDRM’s continued commitment to identifying and dismantling not only the perpetrators of theft but also the syndicate networks involved,” he said.
He added that 10,693 of the 33,716 stolen vehicles reported during the period had been seized or recovered through police investigations and operations.
“PDRM will continue to intensify operations, intelligence gathering and enforcement action to ensure that this downward trend can be maintained,” he said.
