Sarawak Haze: Serian API Surges Past 500, Kuching Also Hits Hazardous Level

Air quality in Serian, Sarawak has deteriorated further, with the Air Pollutant Index (API) hitting 518 this morning, firmly placing the area in the hazardous category.

Data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) also showed Kuching recording a hazardous reading of 310.

Two other areas in Sarawak were at the very unhealthy level, with Samarahan recording an IPU of 281 and Sri Aman 245.

Ten locations recorded unhealthy air quality, including six areas in Sarawak. Sarikei recorded 181, Sibu 177, Mukah 173, Bintulu 157, Samalaju 152 and the Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP Miri) 116.

Johor recorded unhealthy readings in Pasir Gudang at 124 and Segamat at 105, while Sabah saw Sandakan at 152 and Politeknik Kota Kinabalu at 105.

Across the country, 42 areas recorded moderate air quality while 12 locations remained in the good category.

The latest readings come as Sarawak continues to bear the brunt of deteriorating air quality, with Serian’s reading now exceeding 500.
