A total of 191 notices of offence were issued to individuals caught littering in public places during Ops Bangkit, held in conjunction with the 2026 National Day celebrations.
The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) said the notices were issued up to Aug 31 during an eight-day integrated operation conducted with the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) from Aug 24 to 31.
The operation focused on monitoring and enforcement at public areas, with surveillance intensified on the night of Aug 30 ahead of National Day celebrations.
KPKT said 234 SWCorp enforcement officers were deployed to 56 locations across seven states that have adopted the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672).
Those convicted of littering can be fined up to RM2,000 and ordered to perform up to 12 hours of community service under Section 77B of the Act.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said enforcement was aimed not only at penalising offenders but also at improving compliance and encouraging greater public responsibility.
He said enforcement would continue to be carried out consistently to ensure compliance with the law and reduce littering in public spaces.
