Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate delays in the supply of Fertiliser 3 to paddy farmers under the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) in Kedah.
He said the delay had affected farmers and should not have occurred, particularly as they were already dealing with water supply issues and hot weather.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the government would not hesitate to terminate contracts with companies that failed to fulfil their obligations, while those found to have committed offences could face prosecution.
“If a company repeatedly fails to fulfil its obligations, terminate the contract and appoint a new company. Do not make farmers the victims,” he stated in his speech at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-tourism Exhibition (MAHA 2026) today.
He said the fertiliser distribution process should also be reviewed to determine whether any wrongdoing had occurred.
Anwar also said the delay had affected the image of the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM), despite its efforts to support paddy farmers.
He stressed that farmers should be able to focus on their livelihoods without being affected by administrative or supply problems.
The issue was previously raised by Pengkalan Kundor assemblyman Mardhiyyah Johari, who urged the government to consider compensation for farmers who suffered losses due to delays in distributing Compound Fertiliser 3, also known as Paddy Fertiliser 3, in MADA areas.
The delay reportedly affected about 38,000 farmers cultivating 78,117 hectares of paddy in the MADA area.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu previously said the Fertiliser 3 supply had been delivered to MADA farmers since Thursday and was expected to be completed within 10 days.
