Air quality at six monitoring stations in Selangor remained at moderate levels as of 9am, with Johan Setia recording the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 99, just below the unhealthy threshold.
According to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), the other five Selangor locations with moderate readings were Shah Alam at 77, Klang at 71, Petaling Jaya and Banting at 70 each, and Kuala Selangor at 68.
Under the API classification, readings between 51 and 100 are categorised as moderate, while readings of 101 to 200 are considered unhealthy.
Nationwide, 14 monitoring stations recorded unhealthy air quality as of 9am, with Sarawak accounting for the bulk of the affected locations.
Sarawak recorded unhealthy readings at 11 stations, led by IPD Serian at 197, followed by Kuching at 181, Samarahan at 179, Sri Aman at 172, Sarikei at 163, Samalaju at 161, Sibu at 157, Mukah at 155, Bintulu at 153, and both Miri and ILP Miri at 147.
In Sabah, Politeknik Kota Kinabalu recorded an API of 150, while Pasir Gudang in Johor stood at 109 and Labuan at 103.
Overall, 49 monitoring stations nationwide were at moderate levels, while five recorded good air quality.
APIMS classifies API readings of zero to 50 as good, 51 to 100 as moderate, 101 to 200 as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, and readings above 300 as hazardous.
The latest readings show air quality concerns remain concentrated in Sarawak, while conditions in parts of Selangor continue to warrant monitoring, particularly in Johan Setia where the API is close to entering the unhealthy range.
