Penang is getting a new luxury resort this year, with InterContinental Hotels & Resorts set to open its first resort in Malaysia in Teluk Bahang.
Located on the island’s quieter western coast, InterContinental Penang Resort will sit between the rainforest and the Andaman Sea. The property will have 348 rooms and suites, including accommodation with access to Club InterContinental.
Food and drink will be central to the resort. The resort will include four restaurants and bars, each with a different focus. Sulam will serve Peranakan cuisine, Paradiso will focus on Italian dishes, and SHINKA will offer Nikkei cuisine. Coastal will provide oceanfront dining.
The resort will also have Gemala Spa, with treatments based on Penang’s mix of cultural traditions and contemporary wellness practices.
Families will have access to the Planet Trekkers Kids Club and a dedicated games room for teenagers. For events, the property will include a Grand Ballroom, meeting rooms, a boardroom and outdoor lawns.
The opening marks the first time the InterContinental brand has operated a resort in Malaysia. The company already has a presence in the country through its hotel portfolio. However, the Penang property will be its first resort format.
InterContinental Penang Resort is scheduled to open in December 2026. Further details on reservations will be announced closer to the opening.
