Serian recorded a very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 258 as of 9 am today, while eight other areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy air quality, according to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
The eight areas were Sri Aman, with an API reading of 197, followed by Samarahan (195), Kuching (191), Bintulu (152), Sarikei (151), Samalaju (148), Mukah (118) and Sibu (108).
Nationwide, 44 areas recorded moderate air quality, while 14 recorded good readings.
Under the API classification, readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and 301 and above hazardous.
