Unhealthy air blanketed much of Malaysia on the afternoon of Sept 15, with 40 of 68 monitored areas recording Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in the unhealthy range as of 2pm on Sept 15, 2026, according to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System.
Johan Setia in Selangor recorded the country’s highest API at 187, followed by Cheras in Kuala Lumpur and Serian IPD in Sarawak at 176 each.
Negeri Sembilan also saw elevated pollution, with Nilai at 174 and Seremban at 171, while Putrajaya and Shah Alam both stood at 172.
The Klang Valley continued to bear the brunt of the haze. In Selangor, Shah Alam recorded an API of 172, Klang 165, Petaling Jaya 164, Banting 162 and Kuala Selangor 161. Kuala Lumpur’s Batu Muda stood at 166, while Putrajaya was at 172.
In Johor, Tangkak recorded 172, followed by Pasir Gudang at 167, Kota Tinggi at 164, Larkin at 163, Batu Pahat at 162 and Pengerang at 161.
Pahang also recorded widespread unhealthy conditions, led by Indera Mahkota at 166, Balok Baru at 162, Temerloh at 161, Jerantut at 160 and Rompin at 155.
Terengganu’s Kemaman recorded 161, while Paka stood at 158 and Kuala Terengganu at 155.
Perak registered unhealthy readings in Tanjung Malim at 163, Seri Manjung at 159 and Tasek Ipoh at 155.
In Penang, Balik Pulau recorded 154 and Minden 151, while Seberang Jaya stood at 106. Sungai Petani in Kedah registered 153.
Melaka’s Bukit Rambai and Alor Gajah both recorded API readings of 163.
In Sarawak, Samarahan stood at 157 and Kuching at 141, in addition to Serian IPD’s 176.
Under the API classification, readings of 101 to 200 are considered unhealthy, while 201 to 300 are very unhealthy and readings above 300 are hazardous.
