Artificial intelligence company Anthropic will open an office in Singapore in October and begin hiring locally as it expands its presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Singapore office will be the developer of Claude’s fifth in the region, joining existing offices in Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul and Sydney.
Anthropic said it will hire for a range of roles in Singapore. Its careers site currently lists nine Singapore-based openings across teams including applied AI, finance and marketing.
The company said Singapore is already a major market for Claude, ranking second among 121 countries for Claude.ai usage relative to population in its latest Economic Index.
Claude usage in Singapore is 5.81 times higher than would be expected based on the country’s population, Anthropic said.
Chris Ciauri, Anthropic’s managing director of international, said establishing an office in Singapore was a natural next step given the level of Claude usage in the country.
“A presence here means we can hire the people who know this market best, and work side by side with local customers and partners building with Claude.”
Anthropic said it will work with organisations in Singapore ranging from startups and digital-native companies to large enterprises and the public sector, with particularly strong demand from regulated sectors such as financial services and government.
The company also highlighted Singapore’s concentration of technical talent, research institutions and global businesses, as well as its efforts to promote AI adoption and workforce development.
Anthropic said Dale Finlay has also joined the company as general manager of ASEAN and will be based in Singapore, where he will work with customers and partners across Southeast Asia.
Finlay previously held leadership roles at technology companies across the Asia-Pacific region, including nearly a decade at Google Cloud.
Senior Anthropic executives are expected to visit Singapore for the office opening and meet customers, partners and policymakers.
