The air quality in five areas in Selangor remained at unhealthy levels as of 10pm, with Johan Setia recording the state’s highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 172.
According to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), the other affected areas were Shah Alam at 161, Banting at 159, Petaling Jaya at 155 and Klang at 155.
Across the country, a further 31 areas recorded unhealthy air quality at the same time.
The highest API readings nationwide were recorded in Tasek Ipoh, Perak and Kuching, Sarawak at 182, followed by IPD Serian at 180, Samarahan at 176 and Seri Manjung at 176.
Meanwhile, 28 areas were at moderate levels, while four areas — three in Sabah and one in Sarawak — recorded good air quality.
Under the API classification, readings of 0 to 50 are considered good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.
