Transport Minister Anthony Loke will proceed with his scheduled official engagements in China before returning to Malaysia to handle matters related to his resignation as Transport Minister, the Transport Ministry (MOT) said today.
MOT said Loke will represent Malaysia at the 12th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Transport Ministers Meeting in Beijing from today until tomorrow.
His programme includes several bilateral meetings and the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering transport cooperation between Malaysia and China, as well as aviation safety cooperation between the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
The Malaysia-China transport MoU covers land, rail, maritime, aviation and logistics sectors.
“The CAAM-CAAC MoU covers areas such as airworthiness, aviation organisation certification, personnel licensing, operational oversight as well as mutual recognition of compliance findings and certificates,” the ministry said in a statement.
After the Beijing programme, Loke is scheduled to travel to Shanghai to join the Prime Minister’s delegation before returning to Malaysia to manage matters related to the resignation process.
“MOT will continue to ensure that all affairs and responsibilities of the ministry are carried out as usual in a professional and orderly manner,” it said.
On Saturday, Loke offered to resign as Transport Minister following DAP’s position on the conditional pardon granted to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
