Meta’s Facebook and Instagram experienced outages in the US on Sunday, with thousands of users reporting problems accessing the platforms, according to Downdetector.com.
Downdetector recorded more than 17,000 reports of issues with Facebook as of 9.11pm ET, while Instagram recorded more than 5,000 outage reports.
The platform tracks outages by aggregating user-submitted reports, meaning the actual number of affected users may differ.
Meta had not immediately responded to a Reuters request for comment.
The cause of the outages was not immediately clear.
