Stock Today: Sunway Healthcare Falls 1.8% On Higher Trading Volume

Sunway Healthcare Holdings Bhd fell 4 sen or 1.84% to RM2.13 as of 10.11am, with 20.98 million shares changing hands.

The stock opened at RM2.10 and traded between RM2.08 and RM2.13, compared with its previous close of RM2.17.

At the time of writing, Sunway Healthcare had 1.64 million shares queued at RM2.13 on the buy side and 1.60 million shares at RM2.14 on the sell side.

The decline came after the healthcare group recently broke ground on the RM800 million Sunway Medical Centre Iskandar Puteri in Johor, its first hospital in southern Malaysia.

The medical centre is targeted for completion in 2030 with more than 400 beds and is expected to employ over 1,400 healthcare professionals. It will also include specialist services covering cancer and nuclear medicine, cardiovascular care, oncology, neuroscience, gastroenterology and hepatology, orthopaedics as well as women’s and children’s health.

Sunway Healthcare is also developing a fertility centre at Sunway Citrine and a Sunway Ambulatory Care Centre near the Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link, targeted for completion in 2027 and 2028 respectively.

The expansion comes amid expectations of rising demand for specialised healthcare services in Malaysia as the healthcare system faces increasing pressure from climate-related health risks, transboundary haze and antimicrobial resistance.
