Four areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy air quality readings as of 9am Friday, with Serian recording the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 178.
According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Kuching recorded an API reading of 166, followed by Samarahan at 165 and Sri Aman at 163.
Meanwhile, 61 areas nationwide recorded moderate air quality readings.
These included Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur at 73, Kota Kinabalu in Sabah at 63, Balik Pulau in Penang at 55 and Kangar in Perlis at 52.
Three other areas recorded good air quality.
Under the API scale, readings between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, while readings from 51 to 100 are considered moderate.
Readings between 101 and 200 are classified as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy and readings above 300 as hazardous.
