Barisan Nasional (BN) will begin separate negotiations with two parties next week on possible cooperation for the Melaka state election, BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO president, said two meetings had been scheduled at different dates and times with the two groups.
Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki will represent BN in the negotiations.
“Next week, the UMNO headquarters has arranged two separate meetings, on different dates and at different times, with two different groups,” he told reporters after opening the Musyawarah Nasional – Membongkar Polemik Tanah Melayu programme at the Melaka International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh.
Ahmad Zahid said BN would consider the medium- and long-term interests of the country and the coalition in assessing possible cooperation.
The Melaka State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on Sept 23, paving the way for the 16th state election.
In the 2021 state election, BN won 21 of the 28 seats, while Pakatan Harapan secured five and Perikatan Nasional two.
