The government will cover the cost of postal delivery for medicines from Oct 1, allowing patients who opt for the service to receive their medicines by post at no charge.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the initiative would be implemented nationwide through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in collaboration with the Health Ministry (MoH), with an allocation of about RM5 million.
“Previously, patients had to pay for the postal delivery of medicines, but from Oct 1, they will no longer have to pay as the cost will be fully borne by the government through MCMC,” he told reporters after visiting the National Digital Health Ecosystem and Connectivity Driver (PERSADA) initiative project at the Padang Besar Health Clinic here today.
Fahmi said the initiative would cover patients using the Postal Medicine Delivery Programme (UMP), which provides an alternative for patients to receive their medicines without collecting them in person.
In June, Fahmi said the government would fully bear the delivery costs for about 80,000 patients a month under UMP through the collaboration between MCMC and MoH.
